March ’22 News

Spring is in the air and we keep marching along with new gear! Specifically, guitar related gear, and not just any gear...killer gear! Over the last month I've made a significant investment in carefully selecting a diverse, yet specific, group of gear and software...the highest quality tools with the ability to cover the broadest set of genres. No Compromises.

First let's talk guitars. In the last month, I'm stoked to announce not one, but two additions; both American classics.

At the beginning of the month, I picked up a Gibson Les Paul Tribute. The Tribute is a true workhorse guitar, with that famous humbucking tone. It's all there; USA made, the frets have been plek'd, the sustain is long, the neck has been finished in nitro creating one of the smoothest necks out there, and the 490 pickups provide familiar PAF territory with a little extra chime.

Next up, not to "out do", anything is the yin to the yang, the peanut butter to the jelly, you guessed it - a ridiculous mid/late-60's inspired Fender Stratocaster. I'll make a whole separate post about this guitar, but it's something special! In a nutshell, it's an all USA vintage style Strat that's parts were meticulously procured for a very specific build sheet, and the results are stunning, with a sound and tonal character to match. Look for the coming post with all of the details.

Well, you need something to plug these things into right? In the last month, which was a direct carryover from February, both some ridiculous pedals, and amp emulations were added. I'll list them first, and then talk a little about each. Just wait for the April update (hint).

Some details...

J. Rockett Designs "The Jeff Archer"

First, "The Jeff Archer", is what happens when you take an already excellent JRD Silver Archer, and have Jeff Beck ask for some "modifications", The Jeff Archer, is a different limited/exclusive overdrive pedal that replaces the standard components with vintage NOS germanium diodes. It's widely considered to be nearly an exact recreation of the famous and mythical Klon overdrive. This pedal is absolutely gorgeous sounding.

Wampler Tumnus Deluxe

Another Klon clone, Wampler's handbuilt pedals are of top-notch quality and are recognized by guitarists everywhere. From the aggressive crunch of their distortions to the lush tones of their modulations, it's easy to find the perfect ingredient to your tonal recipe. The difference between this pedal and the "Jeff Archer", are a little more bottom end, and 3 discreet EQ controls.

The Julianna by Walrus Audio

Julianna is an all analog, digital LFO, stereo chorus/vibrato. Julianna is able to produce mild smooth chorus, to seasick vibrato, to everywhere in between. Truly a one of kind pedal from a boutique maker.

ProCo Rat 2

This pedal is nothing less than an icon, in the literal sense. This is the standard that all other distortion devices are measured against.  Heard on thousands of recordings, it has helped define the sound of the past three decade’s most influential bands.

Wampler Triple Wreck

Part of Wampler's Amp-in-a-Box series, the Triple Wreck delivers heavy, rectified high-gain amp tones. The Triple Wreck has two distinct voicings. The Hard setting adds a warmer thump to your tone, and the Brutal setting adds a high-end sparkle for a more full-spectrum sound. Classic heavy sound of the late 90's and early 2000's.

If you're still here, let's cover the amp emulations!

Neural DSP Tone King

Balancing iconic vintage characteristics and innovation is a paradox very few can reconcile. Tone King is one of the most remarkable examples of this in the world of tube amplifiers. It is packed with gorgeous clean and crunch tones reminiscent of the most iconic era.

This amplifier was designed to delight and inspire, and we are proud to present the Tone King Imperial MKII Suite.

Universal Audio Friedman BE-100

The Friedman BE-100 amplifier is the result of years of experience Friedman amassed performing tone mods on his various clients’ 1959 Marshall plexis.

Universal Audio Friedman Buxom Betty

The 50-watt Friedman Buxom Betty is what guitar amp fantasies are made of — a gorgeous, hand-wired single-channel amp that delivers the dynamic shimmer of American vintage tube combos as well as the comely roar of classic British stacks.

Universal Audio Friedman DS-40 "Dirty Shirley"

Taking its cue from Marshall’s earliest production amp — the venerable JTM45 — Friedman’s dual 6L6-based Dirty Shirley DS-40 amplifier is renowned for its rich, bell-like clean tones, ultra-dynamic cleanish tones, and ability to conjure more aggressive textures while retaining musical touch sensitivity.

Universal Audio Fuchs Train II

Inspired by the late Ken Fischer’s iconic and rare Trainwreck amplifiers, the Fuch’s Train II is renowned for its harmonically rich clean and crunch tones, as well as its aggressive rock and roll character.

Well, that sums up the new gear news! Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Definitely a no compromise exercise in providing the best offerings in the studio, for the ultimate in tone. Other noteworthy news includes the completion of some built in shelves for gear display and organization. You can actually see an example of the shelves for pedals above in this post. Stay tuned for more updates next month, and until then - be inspired and be an inspiration!
